Editorial Information

The IV LEADER is the official student newspaper of Illinois Valley Community College. Funded entirely through student fees allotted by the Student Government Association, the newspaper is distributed free of charge. The student staff, assisted by a faculty advisor, publishes 1,200 copies of the typically eight-page tabloid every three weeks for a total of ten issues per year. The newspaper is printed by the News Tribune in LaSalle, Ill.

Editorials and columns in the IV LEADER express the opinions of student staff members and do not necessarily express the views of IVCC, the administration or the Board of Trustees.

STUDENT STAFF POSITIONS

The staff is composed entirely of student volunteers, and staff positions are open to all students, part-time and full-time, regardless of major. The editor is selected, typically for a one-year appointment, by the faculty advisor. Other editorial staff appointments are decided by the editor in consultation with the advisor. Those editorial staff appointments, the decision making positions on the newspaper, usually include a managing or associate editor, opinion page editor, arts and entertainment editor, sports editor, photography editor and page editors. The IV Leader recruits and welcomes staff members throughout the year, including news, feature and sports writers, columnists, cartoonists, graphic artists, and photographers.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

The IV LEADER invites readers to submit letters to the editor. As space allows, letters which are deemed to be of interest to the campus community are printed. Letters must be signed, and the name of the author will be printed with the letter in the IV Leader. The author's address and phone number must be included with the letter for verification purposes, but those items will not be printed with the letter.

Publication Policy

The IV LEADER encourages campus organizations and offices and off-campus groups to submit news items for possible publication. As space allows, the newspaper covers events and issues of interest to members of the campus community. While preference is given to campus events and issues, coverage is not limited to campus concerns.
