The Student Government Associations programming push is underway. Recent SGA meetings have focused on activities and events on campus.
Black History Month will be honored by a group of black women percussionists Adawee. The group is scheduled to appear Feb. 27 in the Cultural Center.
Other programming events include Soberfest in March and Family Night on April 2.
Results from SGAs programming survey, distributed in the lobby in December, were tabulated by freshmen representative Lisa Twardowski, and discussed at the SGA Christmas dinner. But after noticing a lack in the diversity of the students polled, the group decided to make an effort to poll minorities and adult students.
Survey topics ranged from convenient times for activities to traveling entertainers students would like to see at the college.
SGA tossed the idea of an activity hour around at the Jan. 16 meeting. If the event was implemented, there would be a minimal number of classes scheduled every other Wednesday between noon and 1 p.m. This hour would be free time where most students wouldnt have class and could meet with their campus organizations.T
he idea, proposed to Vice President of Student Affairs Dr. Marshall, would give campus organizations a more popular time to meet than 7:15 a.m., which is often the only time all the members of a group are all free at the same time. It would also allow faculty a time for division meetings.
SGA is also looking into the installation of an Automatic Teller Machine somewhere on campus. According to SGA advisor Cory Tomasson, an ATM used to be in the lobby, but was removed because it wasnt profitable.
According to SGA president Angela Brown, a vacancy created by sophomore representative Jen Dischler transferring to ISU needs to be filled. Interested sophomores can inquire at the SGA office in the cafeteria or contact Tomasson at 224-0509.
