LETTER TO EDITOR: Pearson remembered
Back to Apache home pageDear Editor,
Once again, the sad, devastating news of the loss of a former IVCC student reminds us of how short life can be and how important it is to live it fully while we are here. Phil Pearson was a young man who seemed to know that. His foster father said of him "He just had a wonderful love of life. I don't think he ever knew an enemy."
Phil Pearson was an ideal example of the value of having a football team at IVCC. School did not come easy for him; football was the motivation to get him in the door. While he was here, Phil touched the hearts and enriched the lives of many people at IVCC and in the community.
He had a wonderful engaging smile and sense of humor. He spoke with great pride and love of his foster Mom and Dad.
Phil joined POWER (People of the World End Racism) and was a dedicated member, often volunteering to chaperone a dance or open gym "for the kids," as he would say.
Best of all, Phil took advantage of what was available to help him succeed at IVCC, working closely with the staff in the Reading, Writing, Study Skills Lab to improve his grades.
If you would like to commemorate the special life of Phil Pearson, send donations to IVCC c/o Marianne Dzik or to me. All money will be used to help students in the Reading, Writing, Study Skills Lab succeed as Phil did.
