Ping pong, 3-on-3 basketball, bowling, snow softball, whiffle ball and badminton are being offered for intramurals this semester.
Ping-pong was scheduled to begin at press time, with games to be played on Monday and Wednesday at noon. Linda Hawkins and Kim Stalley, members of the Counseling Center staff who won the fall semester euchre tournament said they were looking forward to challenging students and other departments in ping pong.
"Euchre is just the beginning," one of them stated.
Basketball play is set to begin on March 13 with an entry deadline of March 3. Intramural director Bob Koopmann said he does expect to have a good turn out for the 3-on-3 play.
"The only way we can increase the number (of participants), wed have to stagger it to make an equal opportunity for everyone to attend."
The other activities will be offered at later times to be announced.
Of the fall intramurals, the basketball league had the best turnout, Koopmann said. In the finals, played in December, He Got It, a team of baseball players, defeated The Degrees, a team of teachers, in overtime 67-65. Garet Dinges led He Got It with 21 points, Ryan Andres added 16 points and Matt Glupczynski had 15.
In the semi-finals, The Degrees beat The Freshmen Staff 61-50, and He Got It beat The Pirates, a group from Ottawa, 60 55.
Turnout for the intramural activities have varied, Koopmann said. Chess was canceled because too few people signed up.
Noting that very few people signed up for euchre in the fall, Koopmann asked, "Where are all those euchre players?"
Anyone interested in intramural activities can sign up in G-207.
