The womens basketball team has been on a roll lately, despite the fact they have been playing with only six players. At press time they were on a four-game winning streak and had won 10 of the last 13 games.
On Feb. 10, the Lady Apaches defeated Carl Sandburg 74-64.
Coach Steve Crick said, "We were very tired at halftime, and I was just hoping we could get to the free throw line as much as possible."
The IVCC women did get there in the second half, knocking down 14 out of their 18 attempts. For the game they were 25 out of 32 at the free throw line. Jaci Bice led the Lady Apaches with 28 points and 10 rebounds. Shari Gast had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jamie Kromm and Nicole Oberle each had 14 points.
On Feb. 8, the Lady Apaches defeated Kishwaukee 77 66. Bice had 25 points to lead the IVCC women, while Kromm and Gast each had 13 points. Julia Tybor also contributed 12 points off the bench.
On Feb. 5, the Lady Apaches defeated Joliet 76 55.
"This is one of the better games we played this season," Crick said. "I couldnt be more pleased."
The Apaches were led by Bice (31 points, 14 rebounds and 5 steals) Kromm (18 points and 10 rebounds). Monica Terando and Oberle each had 10 points.
With a 17-11 record overall and 7-4 record in the Arrowhead Conference, the Lady Apaches have one regular season game remaining, against Sauk Valley on Feb. 17 there. Earlier this season the Lady Apaches were defeated by Sauk 74-71 and coach Steve Crick said the rematch should be another close game.
On Feb. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at IVCC, the Lady Apaches open regional play against Moraine Valley. If the IVCC women win that game, they would play at 3 p.m. Feb. 26 at McHenry County.
Coach Crick said he feels very confident his team can win the 11 team single elimination tournament because his team has already defeated the top seeded team, South Suburban.
"Its going to depend on how we shoot and what team is playing best at that time," he said.
Crick said he is also pleased with the scoring balance on his team. Bice continues to lead the nation in scoring with 25.9 PPG, but three other Lady Apaches average double figures.
