Fifteen IVCC students have qualified for state competition sponsored by the Illinois Association of Electricity and Electronics Educators.
The students, who placed in the top five in the regional competition to qualify for the state contest, are:
- Nerys Bernabei First Place in AC/DC solid state,
- Rodney Weidner Second Place in AC/DC solid state,
- Tim Frederick First Place in Basic Electricity,
- Stephen Gibson Second Place in Basic Electricity,
- Cynthia Adams Third Place in Basic Electricity,
- Travis Beard Fifth Place in Basic Electricity,
- Benito Gonzalez, First Place in Electrician,
- Anthony Harcharik Third Place in Electrician,
- David Derlein Fourth Place in Electrician,
- Orval Marshall First Place in Motors, Controls and PLCs,
- Johnny Goplin Second Place in Motors, Controls and PLCs,
- Eric Skinner Fourth Place in Motors, Controls and PLCs,
- Eugene Schultz Fifth Place in Motors, Controls and PLCs,
- Susan Eichhorn First Place in Project Design,
- Thomas Clark Third Place in Project Design.
Frederick, Gonzalez and Marshall earned the top regional scores in the state in their divisions.
Electronics instructor Jim Gibson said "I am very proud of the outstanding performance of this year's regional performers. In the 27-year-history of the IAEEE, this is the finest regional performance by a post secondary school that I have seen."
Gibson explained that this was the first year that students from the one-year electricity certificate competed for IVCC; typically only students in the A.A.S. electronics degree program participate.
The state competition is April 29 on the IVCC campus.
In addition to Gibson, the IVCC electronics staff includes John Biggs, Mike Willand, Joe Elzer, Joe Tokarz and Chet Wasilewski.
