Only one team has signed up for the 3-on-3 basketball intramurals and no one has signed up for chess.
About the activities which were to begin at the end of February, athletic director Mike Riley said, "There hasnt been a whole lot of response from the students on this for some reason. I dont understand why because the students were surveyed on what kind of intramural activities they would like and what times would be best for them to participate."
Coordinator for the intramural program Jon Drahos said, "Right now the thing we need is interest from the students."
Drahos explained that the sign up sheets for intramurals allow students to choose the days and times they are available to participate, Monday through Friday at 11 a.m. to noon or at noon to 1 p.m.
Sign ups for 3-on-3 basketball are still being accepted in the athletic office, G-211. Later activities being planned are a 3-point shootout, a free throw contest, softball, a home-run derby, and bench press challenge. For the fall semester, a one-mile or two-mile run and flag football are being considered.
Drahos said for most of the activities, certificates will be given to the winners, but for longer-lasting activities, trophies will be awarded.
Riley said he hoped to have a director of intramurals appointed for next year "that could really set this thing up so the students can enjoy it."
