Back to Apache home page

Phi Theta Kappa is sponsoring an essay contest on the topic of "The Pursuit of Happiness: Conflicting Vision and Values."

Advisor Kirk Lockwood said entries will be accepted through April 5. Prizes of $50, $30 and $10 will be awarded to the winners.

Lockwood said entries should address the potential conflicts that arise in society when groups or individuals with diverse goals and value systems pursue happiness and fulfillment. He said the entries may address the issue from one or more perspectives: historical, contemporary, economic, political, cultural, scientific, technological, ethical, moral, artistic, literary, spiritual.

Entries should be three to four pages long, and should include the name, address and phone number of the writer.

Lockwood said winners will be announced by the end of April. Entries will be judged, he said, by a panel on the basis of substance of ideas, effectiveness of organization, clarity and correctness.

For more information or to submit an entry, see Lockwood, B-321, ext. 336, or e-mail lockwood@ivcc.edu
