| Greene’s future to include golf and grandchildren | |

Russ Greene, math instructor, will be retiring at the end of the spring semester after 31 years at IVCC.
Greene has a B.S. in education from ISU and a Masters in math from the University of South Carolina. Before he came to teach at IVCC he taught for three years at Belvidere High School near Rockford, IL.
Greene has enjoyed teaching at college level. He has seen mathematics go from a slide rule to a graphics calculator.
"Technology is a great thing in that it removes tedious tasks and lets me focus more on my learning and teaching which benefits the students," he said.
Greene finds it necessary to take early retirement due to health reasons. He has had two bypass surgeries and said not teaching will eliminate stress in his life.
Although, Greene said "I will miss the interaction with the students and faculty, also the subject matter that I teach."
One thing Greene won’t miss too much is grading tests.
In his retirement Greene plans on possibly teaching part time, playing more golf, traveling more, and being a nanny for three of his grandchildren. Greene’s daughter has just been accepted into flight attendant school and has three daughters that the Greene’s plan to care for when her mother is out of town.
Greene and his wife, Linda, have four children, three of whom live near Chicago and one in Depue, and seven grandchildren.
"I have really enjoyed it over the years, and I had mix feeling about submitting my resignation," he said in closing.
