A day camp for school-age children on Easter break is being organized by students in business and early childhood education classes.
The week of April 5 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. the upper gym will be transformed into the IVCC Vacation Childrens Camp. Alice Steljes, accounting instructor, said the camp will be open during those hours, but some children could be staying for as short a period as one hour.
Student Gail Orozco said fees for the children have been set at $1.75 per hour for one child, $2.25 per hour for two children, and $2.75 for three children.
Registration for the camp is still being accepted at the information desk in the lobby. A $5 registration fee is being charged, but the registration charge will be subtracted from the first days hourly fee.
"Day camp is a time for the children to learn a lot of interesting things and have fun doing it," Steljes said.
Students in early childhood education courses are organizing and will offer the daily activities. They work under the supervision of early childhood instructor Diane Christianson and educational psychology instructor Jill Urban-Bollis.
Business students, enrolled in BUE 226 - Integrated Business Operations, handle the marketing, communication, and cost factors of the project. They also work at the camp in a business capacity, checking children in, collecting fees and providing additional security and supervision. They work under the supervision of Steljes.
