Tutoring Center moves from building E to building B
By Randa Anthony
The Academic Assistance Center for Peer Tutoring has moved from the top floor of building E to B-315.
The move, made just before the spring semester began, was to bring the tutoring center closer to the Center for Academic Development, located in LRC-B, according to Humanities and Fine Arts Chair Giacomo Leone.
"We would like an area that can be identified where all students can get the academic assistance they require," Leone said.
The tutoring center provides tutors to work with students individually or in smaller groups on specific course content. Tutors are paid, but the service is provided free of charge.
Vickey ONeal-Woodward, coordinator, described the tutors as "IVCC students who demonstrated good grades and the ability to deal with the diverse needs of the population."
A schedule, available in the center, identifies when tutors for certain courses are available, but tutoring sessions can also be scheduled at other times, Woodward said.
Woodward said the tutoring center, now seven years old, has been a success.
"Everybody feels better when they succeed," she said.
Anyone in need of tutoring assistance or wishing to become a tutor should contact Woodward in B-325, ext. 479.
