A Rivers Project Workshop is scheduled on campus Feb. 18.

Students and faculty from IVCC and area high schools will participate in a variety of training sessions and have an opportunity to attend a number of presentations throughout the day.

Keynote speaker, scheduled for 7 p.m., is Kevin S. Cummings of the Illinois National History Survey.

In addition to workshops and sessions in biology, chemistry, earth science and geology, the program includes sociology and language arts, focusing on the river.

IVCC faculty organizing the program include Bob Byrne, Mike Phillips, Tim Horger, Pat Cole, Doug Stockley and Sue Caley.

The workshop is funded by a grant of nearly $1,000 provided by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Natural Heritage Division from contributions to the Illinois Wildlife Preservation Fund.

The grant was provided for a project entitled Stream Assessment in Mitchell’s Grove Nature Preserve, on the Little Vermilion and Tomahawk Creek.
