This spring, students, faculty and staff will be offered childcare services for their school-age children during Easter break. Students in business and in early childhood education are planning a day camp for April 5 9.
The cost to parents will be affordable, according to early childhood education instructor Diane Christianson, and the children will be provided with nutritious snacks twice daily and a meal at lunchtime.
Physical and educational activities are being planned by the early childhood education students. The camp will be based in the upper gym with trips outdoors and to various parts of the campus for indoor learning activities.
"The children will be learning and still getting to have fun," Christianson said.
The purpose of the project, Christianson said, is for the IVCC students to learn to share ideas through teamwork and to be able to manage a business.
"The emphasis is on understanding others and building skills with total hands-on experience," she said.
The program, first offered two years ago, won a Connections 2000 Award from the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Community College Board. The day camp is a Tech Prep project.
Registration is tentatively scheduled in the main lobby during the first week in March.
