After starting the season 0-18, the Lady Apaches split a pair of games in the conference, to stand at 1-19. The Lady Apaches defeated Rock Valley 5-4 in their conference opener on April 3, before losing the second game of the doubleheader 8-7.

"It’s nice to get a conference win. They (Lady Apaches) have been playing better lately," said Head Coach Bill Forrest. " We have really decent players, and we have been hitting the ball better. We just need more self-confidence."

Sophomore Beth Grooms leads the team with a .460 batting average, and Shelly Obermiller is hitting .420. Jenny Doyle, an L-P grad, and a newcomer to the team, went 5 for 7 hitting in her doubleheader debut.

"We’ve had close games ... our record doesn’t reflect our ability," said Forrest.

The Lady Apaches lost to Millikan JV 12-11 on April 1.

"Narissa Sturm exploded for us at Millikan going 4 for 5," said Forrest.

Nicole Thompson is the team’s #1 pitcher. "Nicole keeps us in most games," said Forrest.

According to Forrest, freshman Heather Fossum has done a nice job as the #2 pitcher.

"Tina Wujek is coming off an injured toe and playing well, and Megan Sluis has started hitting well," said Forrest.

The Lady Apaches play Triton on April 10 and Oakton on April 16.

"We can beat Triton and Oakton," said Forrest.

The weather has caused the team to miss games against Spoon River, and Sauk Valley.

According to Forrest, these were very beatable teams that they were not able to play.
