The information and comments below are the candidate's responses to an Apache questionnaire

Major: Business

Age: 19

H.S.: St. Bede

Residence: Spring Valley

Experience in IVCC activities:

I currently work in the bookstore and am a member of Phi Theta Kappa. I was recently elected the Vice President of Leadership/Academics of Phi Theta Kappa.

Experience in student government:

As a senior at St. Bede I was Student Government Representative and was on a committee for Catholic Schools Week.

Why running for the SGA:

I am running for Student Government because I believe that I can represent the students well and I am very interested in the processes and procedures of the Board. My main goal is to be a good representative of the students by presenting their concerns to the Board and to become an active Board member by fully participating in the meetings.

Why that office:

I consider this position to be the most important student leadership position at IVCC and based on my past experiences with student government, I feel I can represent the students well at the Board meetings. Also, I want to learn the internal workings of the college at the Board level.

Qualifications:

I always like to be involved in various activities at school. In high school, I was involved in Student Government, Pep Club, Service Club, Spanish Club, Student Ambassadors, Chorus, Chorus Treasurer, Honor Roll and the musicals. By being involved in all of these activities I have demonstrated that I have the time, energy, and effort to be your Student Board member.

Issues/Problems the SGA should address:

Student Government is here to represent all students. Any problem or concern that a student has should be brought to the attention of an SGA member. I think that a big issue of concern of the students is the rising cost of tuition and fees and the continuance of the quality of instruction.

Suggestions for getting students more involved on campus:

The best way to increase student involvement is to make them more aware of all of the opportunities that IVCC offers: athletics, Honors Program, Chemistry Club, Student Ambassadors, student employment, the plays, Arts & Letters Series, or being involved with the production of the Apache.

Should the college offer tuition waivers to athletes and/or to leaders of campus activities?

I believe that some leaders of campus organizations spend so much time and energy fulfilling the duties of their position that they should receive some type of tuition waiver. That would also ease the burden of losing pay from their jobs. We also want to keep the quality athletes playing for IVCC. We don't want to see them playing against us because a different school offered them a tuition waiver and we didn't It takes a lot of time to have practices, games, a job, and do well in their studies.
