The following information and comments were the candidate's responses to an Apache questionnaire

Major: Undecided

Age: 19

H.S.: Hall

Residence: Spring Valley

Experience in IVCC activities:

Currently the freshman rep.

Experience in student government:

Currently the freshman rep. Attended the past two Illinois Board of Higher Education Student Advisory Committee (IBHE, SAC)

Why running for the SGA:

I wanted to get involved here at IV. Also since I've been freshman rep. Here there have been some issues that concern students.

Why that office:

I have been friends with the current Pres. For a while, and when I asked him what I could do to get involved, he took me under his wing and I guess you could say he showed me the ropes. And now I think I have a better understanding of the position.

Qualifications:

I understand the position thanks to Jeff. Also those IBHE, SAC meetings everyone there has helped me to better understand the position, and I feel I'm ready to take on Jeff's position this fall

Issues/Problems the SGA should address:

Actually there are quite a few issues. One is the lack of interest in school activities. Also, the fact that there are no intramural sports, which ties in with the lack of interest of the students. Also the tuition increase is a big one. I think that all students should be aware when tuition goes up. And all students should have to pay a fair fixed tuition.

Suggestions for getting students more involved on campus:

Restart the intramural sports programs. Also when activities are planned I think there needs to be more information about the activities, like when, where, etc.

Should the college offer tuition waivers to athletes and/or to leaders of campus activities?

We've been talking about that now, and I really can't decide whether to or not. I have pros and cons for this issue, and I really can't decide where I stand until I have looked further into this matter.
