On April 15, IVCC will host a Job Fair in the gym from 8 a.m. to noon, open to the public and free of charge.

John Marzetta, director of the career service center, said that between 80 to 100 employers and nearly 2,000 students and members of the public are expected to attend. Last year the fair attracted about 120 employers and over 2,500 job seekers.

When asked if he had advice to anyone attending the fair, he suggested four steps:

Dress appropriately because you will actually be interviewed.

Have a good, professional resume with you.

Present yourself in an appropriate manner.

Brush up on all your interviewing skills.

Marzetta also said: "You have to research the company and see if it’s right for you. You don’t want to jump into a job and realize too late that it’s not the right one for you and have to start all over again."

This year, in contrast to last year, the Fair will include more employers from cities like Rockford, Peoria, and Chillicothe, who found out about the Fair on-line, he said.

Marzetta said he has received many cards and letters from students thanking him and reporting their success stories because of the job fair.

"You are getting the opportunity to get a hundred interview in one day that would normally take you five or six years," he said.

A list of the employers expected to attend is in the Job Fest ’99 flyer available in the Counseling Center.
