Theatre Festival arrives April 17
IVCC is hosting the Illinois Theatre Association Undergraduate Theatre Festival April 17.
Individual and group representatives of university, college and junior college theatre programs will attend. High school teachers and theatre students are also welcome.
Guest artist of the festival will be Brian Lynch who recently spent seven years touring nationally and internationally with various Broadway musicals including a two-year stint performing the starring role of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, and as several characters in Cats.
Lynch has agreed to teach a Master Class workshop, with volunteer participants, in which he will show students what actually happens at an audition for a Broadway mega-musical. He will direct students in the re-staging of the actual rehearsal process used to develop a scene in Les Miserables.
A key feature of the festival is its tradition of showcasing short theatrical performances presented by a wide variety of undergraduate programs, in a non-competitive event. The running time of each presentation generally averages 20 minutes and is followed by a short critique session.
This year, a new feature of the festival will be an additional rapid-fire showcase of short scenes and monologues, without critiques.
Theatre Director Dr. David Kuester said the festival is "a wonderful opportunity for students to view what other colleges and universities are doing artistically all in one day."
Further information is available from Kuester at ext. 352.
