A new transfer course will help people battle information overload.
Information Literacy (LIB 100), a one-credit hour course, will help students find information, using Internet resources and traditional library resources.
The course, which will begin in the fall semester, will include lectures, discussions, hands-on activities and use of a web board for online discussions to help students develop strategies for information searching.
"This (course) will help students become more comfortable," said Emily Vescogni, one of the librarians who developed the course. "The library has wanted to do something like this for a long time because there was a very limited amount of help offered for groups."
Head librarian Carol Bird said at least five Illinois universities would accept the course for transfer credit. The course is being offered through the Division of Humanities and Fine Arts.
