Computer networking program added for fall
A two-year program in computer network administration will be offered beginning in the fall.
Classes in the program will help prepare students to take nationally recognized certification exams such as those sponsored by Novell and Microsoft. Sue Isermann, chair of the division of business and engineering, said Novell and Microsoft-approved textbooks and materials would be used in courses in the program.
Isermann said the Computer Network Administration Associate in Applied Science degree will help the college address an information technology workforce crisis.
"Every year over 650,000 jobs go unfilled and 40 percent of those jobs require the skills of a network administration," she said. "This will, in some small way, help fill that gap."
The program is expected to attract between 20 and 40 new students in the fall. Surveys of students currently enrolled in networking courses indicated high interest in a degree program, Isermann said.
