Apache staff members won 11 awards and the newspaper earned second place for merit in the state contest held at Wright College in Chicago April 22 and 23.
Staff members took six first place awards, three seconds and two thirds in the Illinois Community College Journalism Association competition.
First place awards went to Staci J. Sessler for an editorial headlined "All Stressed Out," to John Baracani for a sports story about womens basketball being canceled, to Julie Goetsch for a column about Jerry Springer, to Gerry Dowell for a cartoon about biology lab ventilation, and to Holli L. Rapp for photographs, one of womens basketball and one of a child in an educational psychology class.
Second place awards went to Al Steinz for a column about Valentines Day and to Jo Zulkowsky for two news stories, "$1Million Spent on Upgrading" and "Rambo Hits Cyberspace in 1999."
Third place awards went to Aubrey Walder for a cartoon about Funny Fotos and to April Biswell for a feature about the creator of Reggie Registration.
First place in Merit went to the Wright College newspaper. The Apache tied for second with the Joliet Junior College newspaper.
