Adult education commended by state
The Illinois State Board of Education has commended the IVCC Adult Education Department for helping to save state taxpayers over $100,000 in Temporary Assistance to Needy Family grants.
Daniel Miller of the Illinois State Board credited IVCC with reducing or canceling the welfare cash grants of 44 Department of Human Services clients by helping them get back to work. The estimated annual savings attributed to IVCC alone is $128,000.
"IVCCs Adult Education Department can be proud that they have helped some determined people shape a better future for themselves," Miller said. "IVCC has played a significant role in the lives of these students and the communities in which they live."
Overall, adult education departments across the state were responsible for saving an estimated $14.6 million in annual welfare expenditures by serving 12,446 students who were receiving TANF grants.
