EDITORIAL:   We're back and better than ever

Back to Apache home page

Last year was a historic year for the Apache. The Apache staff won 18 different awards for the staff and took home the first-place merit award for excellence at the Illinois Community College Journalism Association contest.

But we’re not finished. We plan on making this year’s editions of the newspaper better than ever before. Readers might notice different fonts, or different graphics and styles that weren’t there before. While these changes may seem minute, they are all directed at making the paper more reader-friendly. This year’s Apache will feature more features and compelling human-interest stories, in addition to the hard news stories with issues important to students and faculty.

It’s an election year, and we as the staff look forward to giving extensive coverage of the process, and college students in the Illinois Valley’s role in the democratic system.

We also plan at taking a closer look at issues that are important to students and faculty. Part of that will come from the many clubs and activities that will be active on campus this year. Our award-winning sports staff will provide in-depth coverage of all of the Apaches’ sports teams, regardless of season. The section will feature coverage of all the key games and rivalries, and athletes that are making an impact on the IVCC athletic scene this year.

But we can’t make any of these improvements without you the reader. Not only are we asking for your readership, but we’re asking for your feed back as well. The Apache isn’t just what we as a staff make it, it’s what the readers’ make it. In other words, it’s as much your paper as it is ours.

Don’t hesitate to let us know about how good (or bad) of a job we’re doing.
