IVCCs enrollment at press time was at 3,743 compared to 3,981 last fall, a nearly 6 percent fallback, but college officials are optimistic the numbers will go up.
"I think that we will probably rebound," said Kelly Conrad, director of admissions. "Being down right now does not necessarily mean we will be down at the semester when it really counts."
According to Conrad, many adult education students and residents of the Sheridan Correctional Center are not yet enrolled this semester so they arent included in the numbers.
At this time, students are enrolled in 33,019.5 credit hours compared to 34,962 at this time last fall, a 5.5 percent drop.
Despite the current downturn, a number of classes, especially those offered at mid-morning, are full, including English 1001, speech 1001 and psychology 1001. Interest in courses in computer network programming also remains strong.
