CROSS COUNTRY: College to host second 4-mile run/walk
By the Apache staff
IVCC will once again host a 4-mile cross country run/walk at 9 a.m. Oct. 14.
According to race coordinator Dennis Summers, the run that was held last year in conjunction with the 75th anniversary events was so well-received, he decided to make it an annual event.
The running course is very unique, said Summers. It begins at the circle drive, winds along the access roads, goes by the mens baseball field and pond, through the pine grove, behind the college, past the tennis courts and through the Auto Shop.
Last year, 69 people participated, and there were 66 finishers. Summers said that he anticipates around 100 participants this year.
Its a very nice course with great scenery, said Summers. And it will be a great time of year when the leaves are changing colors.
Participants will enjoy refreshments following the race. The Student Government Association donated money to purchase drinks and pizza for race participants. Participants will also receive a T-shirt.
The race is sponsored by the Educational Fitness Center in conjunction with the mens baseball team. The entry fee is $13 on or before Oct. 13, and $18 on the day of the race. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each division and to the overall male and female winners.
