SPOOKY, SCARY STORIES: Sigma Kappa Delta, the English honorary, is presenting "Spooky, Scary Story Night" at 6 p.m. Oct. 26 in the Fireplace Lounge. The event is free and open to the public.

Participants will be invited to share their scariest stories, either an original one or one by a favorite author.

Kim Radek, a co-advisor of SKD, said "the content of the stories could be suggestive of violence or sex," and she advised parents to be cautious about bringing children.

Last year, the first year for the event, about 75 people attended.

A scary film may be shown, Radek said. Halloween treats will be served.

Brian Campbell is also a co-advisor of SKD.

OPEN MIC READING: River Currents, IVCC's literary magazine, is hosting a two-hour open mic reading starting at noon Oct. 30 in the Fireplace Lounge. The event is free and open to the public

Advisor Geoff Schmidt encouraged "writers of poetry or stories or plays or essays to read from their work before a warm and appreciative audience."

Schmidt said participants are free to stay for a few minutes or the full two hours.

Back issues of River Currents will be available free of charge at the reading, and a bake sale will be held to raise funds for the magazine, the advisor said.

More information is available from Schmidt at 224-0325.

DANCE TICKETS AVAILABLE: Tickets for the 1940s Radio Swing Dance at the Hotel Kaskaskia at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8 are available in the bookstore. Only 300 tickets are being sold, and the tickets are going fast, according to theatre director Dr. David Kuester.

Prices are $25 per couple or $15 for a single. The program will include live music, dancing, food and entertainment. A cash bar will be available.

The production will consist of swing dances and music from the 1940s and old time radio skits. Producers of the program are Kuester, Michael Pecharek, music instructor; and Karry Baracani-Halblieb, an IVCC theatre department alumni. More information is available from Kuester at ext. 352 or Pecherek at ext. 430.
