Deadline to drop classes Nov. 9
By April Biswell
A new withdrawal policy, requiring students to withdraw from classes earlier than in the past, takes effect this semester.
Students must withdraw by the end of the 12th week of the semester, Nov. 9 for the fall semester and April 7 for the spring. Previously, withdrawals could be processed through the 16th week of a semester.
Dr. Robert Marshall, vice president of student services, said that under the new policy, all withdrawals will be recorded as a "W," simply documenting that the class was dropped. Under the old policy, students who withdrew after the 12th week were issued a withdraw pass or withdraw fail based on their standing in the class at the time they withdrew.
Dr. Marshall warned that students who miss the withdrawal deadline will continue to be enrolled in the class and will receive a letter grade at the end of the semester.
The change was approved in fall 1998 after a committee of faculty and staff members examined withdrawal policies at a number of colleges.
