MEXICAN FOLKLORE PROGRAM: Ballet Folklorico Quetzalcoatl, a dance presentation of Mexican folklore, will be performed in the Cultural Centre from 7 to 8 p.m. Sept. 25.
The program, offered free of charge and open to the public, features a 25-member dance troupe from Aurora. A reception follows the program.
The program is sponsored by the IVCC Diversity Task Force, POWER (People of the World End Racism), and Amcore Bank.
Candace Embling, IVCC Peace Corp Fellow and Community Development Consultant, said the program is being offered in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Sept. 15 - Oct. 15, and to introduce the newly formed Hispanic Partnership Council. Embling said the Council is an organization of community members dedicated to the support and improvement of the Hispanic communities in the Illinois Valley.
"I hope this event stimulates interest in and support for the Hispanic communities in our area," Embling said. "The Hispanic Partnership Council is a new organization, and we hope to use this event as an opportunity to advertise our existence and solicit, welcome new members."
