The golf team captured its first win of the season at the Rock Valley Invitational. "They got a taste of victory and some confidence," said Coach Jim Moskalewicz.

Twenty teams competed, including the third ranked team in the nation, Rend Lake.

The Apaches placed fifth at the ICC Fall Classic on Sept. 24 and 25, behind a 72 by Josh Wheeler and a 74 from Brian Stamberger. Moskalewicz had high hopes for his team heading into the classic.

"Rend Lake will be there and will be good competition. I would love to repeat and win again because I know we can," he said prior to the tournament.

The Apaches have improved their conference record to 3-0 at press time, and Moskalewicz said that he isn’t surprised at all with his team’s success.

"We are dominating the conference,"said the coach. "At Kishwaukee we won by seven or eight strokes and that is the closest anyone has gotten to us."

Leading the team with a 75.1 average is Brian Stamberger, followed by B.J. Carlson’s 75.3, and Tom Bartman’s 75.8. Carlson also has the low round of the year at Oak Ridge, with a 66. That mark also set a new course record.

Moskalewicz likes his team’s chances to fair well in the upcoming regionals, saying that his team is as strong as it gets in the north. He also expects his team to qualify and be competitive in the national tournament, held next spring.
