Name the IVCC daycamp and you can win a $50 gift certificate to the bookstore.
IVCC students in education and business run the daycamp, held for primary grade students on Easter vacation. For a week, the college students provide activities for children of IVCC students and staff.
Business instructor Alice Steljes, one of the supervisors of the project, said: "We think IVCC Daycamp is a really dull name. Since we cant come up with a better moniker, we are giving the IVCC students and staff the opportunity to use their creativity and win some big bucks in the process."
Entry blanks are available at the switchboard in the main lobby and throughout the campus and are being accepted by Steljes and co-supervisors Jill Urban-Bollis and Diane Christianson in campus mail or at their offices through Nov. 1.
A winner will be announced by Nov. 15. All students and staff are eligible to enter and may enter more than once. Steljes said entries will be judged on originality, aptness and appeal to the intended audience.
Psychology instructor Urban-Bollis said the intention of the contest is to produce a permanent name for the camp.
"If your suggestion is selected, not only will you win a $50 gift certificate, but you will also be part of history," she said.
Christianson, early childhood instructor, said the camp definitely needs a better name, but the day camp project has been "a wonderful opportunity for faculty, students, parents, and children."
Students enrolled in BUE 2260, MIMIC, and SSI 2000, Social Science Internship, plan, organize and offer the camp as a practical application of classroom studies. The project is sponsored by IVCCs Tech Prep Team.
