LETTER TO EDITOR: Walking preparation for transfer

 Back to Apache home page

To the students at IVCC,

As the years go by, we each contemplate the past hardships and how much we learn by coping with them. As I walk across the Quad at ISU several times each day, I think about how we all complained about the horrible parking situation at IVCC.

You see, I get here quite early in the morning, and therefore get what is considered a good parking spot. I am in the closest possible lot. And yet I do twice as much walking in the great outdoors than I had at IVCC.

I also remember how nice it was to have all the buildings linked together in a circle. Oh, how we often complained about going from building A to building E. Well, here at ISU I have to walk from building to building to get to class, just as I did at IVCC, but now I have to brave the elements in between classes.

Mind you, school just started a few short weeks ago. I can't wait to walk in the cold sleet, fluffy snowflakes, and puddles of slush to get from class to class. So, before you even think of complaining about IVCC parking problems, just think about all the fun times ahead of you when you transfer to the really big schools.

As a great genius once said, "What doesn't kill us, only makes us stronger." Just as the coursework is preparing you for transfer, so is the walking.
