Letter to the editor:

The Sept. 30 edition of the Apache included two interesting points of view regarding the Miss America Pageant. While both of the women authors expressed interesting opinions, I believe they missed the fundamental issue.

Why do these pageants exist in the first place, and why does the American definition of the "ideal woman" depend on their physical attributes and her "wholesomeness?"

The issue here is not abortion or divorce. The issue is the demeaning, archaic judgement of women.
