In recent weeks, millions of television viewers have watched contestants on television answer trivia questions in an attempt to walk away with as much as one million dollars.
While they werent contestants on televisions "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire," several members of the staff here got their own taste of winning some cash.
On Nov. 17 the group of 12 found out, much to their surprise, that they had picked five correct numbers in the Illinois Little Lotto.
Security Guard Mike Barry had the winning numbers.
The total prize that evening was $200,000 for a single winner, but due to other winners that night, the IVCC group will receive $21,000 to divide amongst the 12.
After 28% of the money is taken away by federal taxes, and 3% more from the state, each member is expected to receive a little more than $1,200 each.
According to Sue Bernabei, secretary to the vice president of business services, who purchases the tickets for the group which plays on Wednesday and Friday nights, they have been playing together for "quite a while." She also added that the group plans on continuing to play, despite their recent success.
"Definitely (well continue)," she said with a laugh. "Were gamblers."
As for plans for the money, both Bernabei and the Secretary to the President, Jeanne Hayden, said they have no immediate plans at the moment.
Ken Sangston, director of safety services, does have a use in mind for his share of the money.
"Ill put it in a fund for my grand kids and also use it for my 90 year old mother that I care for."
Judy Day, secretary to the vice president of academic affairs, plans to use the prize for Christmas gifts.
"I hope to have it before then. It would be a great to use for that time."
