SGA elections, activities set
The Student Government Association, the governing body for IVCC students, has scheduled a number of activities for the coming year:
SGA freshman elections, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 17 18 in the lobby.
Comedian Scott Faulconbridge, noon to 1 p.m., Oct. 26 in the Cultural Center, free.
Mentalist Chris Carter, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Feb. 2 in the Cultural Center, free.
High Energy Game Show, noon to 1 p.m., March 17 in the cafeteria, free.
SGA sophomore elections, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 8 9 in the lobby.
M4 Simulator, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., April 28 in location to be announced.
SGA members will also be helping with Family Reading Night Nov. 19.
In the Sept. 17 and 18 elections, a freshman representative and two freshmen programming board members will be elected.
Sophomore SGA members, elected in April, are: President, Jeff Twardowski; Vice President, Megan Sluis; Treasurer, Judy McQuilkin; Secretary, Jennifer Baker; Sophomore Programming Board, Holli Rapp; and Student Trustee, Chris Smith.
In the spring elections only one candidate petitioned for the two sophomore programming board positions so one seat remains vacant. The SGA will appoint a sophomore to that post.
For its first activity of the year, the SGA sponsored Funny Fotos in the Sept. 2 Pow Wow to showcase student organizations. SGA advisor Cory Tomasson, who also serves as the Coordinator of Student Activities, said over 150 people participated in the Funny Fotos.
"Funny Fotos was, without a doubt, the most successful event that we have had since I have been here," Tomasson said.
In addition to sponsoring campus events, the SGA oversees other student organizations and recommends budget allotments for those groups. Allocations for this year were being reviewed by IVCC administrators at press time, but last years allocations totaled $120,000. The funds come from the $2 per credit hour student standard fee.
The next SGA meeting is Sept. 21 at 7 a.m. in C-103, the SGA office. Meetings are set for every other Monday at that time and location.
The SGA is organized into three branches. The Executive Branch consists of the president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, a sophomore representative and a freshman representative. The Programming Board consists of the three sophomore programming board members.
The Legislative Branch, headed by the SGA vice president, consists of one member from each of the campus organizations, appointed by their organizations.
Members of the SGA also represent the student body on various college committees.
