River Currents: Magazine showcases writing, art
River Currents showcases student writing and artwork in a magazine distributed free of charge on campus.
"This year, River Currents wants to do more to celebrate student writing," said faculty advisor Geoff Schmidt. Plans include two issues of the magazine, a series of student readings and monthly web publications, the advisor said. In past years one issue of the magazine was published, in the spring
Students Jason Davis and Kerry Robinson are on the staff for 1998-99, and other students interested in reading, writing or art are being recruited. Students interested in joining the staff or submitting materials should contact Schmidt or co-advisor Kim Radek.
Schmidt said no experience was necessary for staff membership,
"This is your chance to shape the design of your literary magazine," he said. "This is great experience for anyone who is interested in a career in editing and anyone who loves literature."
The magazine will include student poetry, fiction, drama, essays and artwork. Members of the staff will not have work published in the literary magazine this year, Schmidt explained, "to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest."
