Campus Comments column: People enjoyed Fotos
HOLLI RAPP
Recently there has been some talk on campus about the Funny Fotos the SGA sponsored for the Pow Wow on Sept. 2 in the courtyard. Some people have said some of the background pictures of women in bikinis were demeaning, inappropriate, sexist.
The first thing to remember is that anyone who didnt want to participate in the pictures didnt have to, and anyone who did participate could have picked any of the other backgrounds. I did.
All during the Pow Wow, the line for Funny Fotos was more than a few people, and at times up to 10 or 20. So, people enjoyed the activity. Although the event was for students, faculty and staff participated. Some faculty who did not participate said they would have liked to get their picture taken, but the line was too long and they had to get to class.
As an SGA and programming board member, I hope people realize that the SGA did not pick the picture backgrounds. Also, the representatives from Funny Fotos were nice enough to stay later than planned because there was enough interest.
Funny Fotos was the most popular activity provided by the student government in a number of years. Over 150 people participated.
If people want to complain, maybe they should complain about the student organization that didnt participate in the Pow Wow, which was a chance for the clubs to show students what their organizations do and convince people to join. Fewer than half of the campus organizations had tables at the Pow Wow.
The college wants students to get involved, but how are students to get involved when they dont know anything about some of the organizations.
We want people to get involved, but when they do, people complain.
