If you’ve ever felt that new car feeling, you know how the college’s Safety Services people feel. In March the college purchased a new Ford Taurus for them to use in patrolling the campus.

Director of Purchasing Pat Reed explained that the purchase, through the Illinois State Purchasing Program, allows the college to recycle vehicles.

"We purchased a new car so we were able to use our older car as another campus car," she said.

Faculty and staff members now have two campus cars available, she said, which will make their travel more economical for the college.

"If faculty or staff members use their own vehicles, we have to pay them 32.5 cents per mile," she said. "If they use campus cars to go to a meeting or workshop off campus, we won’t have to pay them at all. They are also covered by school insurance."

With the new car, the college will reenter the 1996 Taurus it purchased under the state plan into the program where it will be resold.

The new car arrived on campus in May at a cost of $14,498.
