College plans 75th birthday

Planning for IVCC’s 75th anniversary celebrations, to run from September 1999 through July 2000, is underway.

A 75th Anniversary Planning Kickoff/Cookout is scheduled for Oct. 9, 1998, at noon in the cafeteria, to encourage faculty and staff to get involved in the celebration, organizer Fran Brolley said.

Brolley, director of public information, is heading the planning committee.

The celebrations begin on Sept. 15, 1999 with a 75th Birthday Party that will include music, food and a rally. Other events already being planned:

* Oct. 15, 1999 - Homecoming Alumni/Retiree Mixer

* Oct. 16, 1999 - Homecoming 7.5 K Run/Walk

* Oct. 16, 1999 - Homecoming Dance

* Oct. 17, 1999 - IVCC Open House

* November 1999 - Reading Night

* February 2000 - 75th Anniversary Ball (formal)

* April 20, 2000 - 75th Anniversary Celebration of Jobs

* May 2000 - Commencement

* June 6, 2000 - 75th Anniversary Child Fair

* June 24, 2000 - 75th Anniversary Foundation Golf Outing

* July 21-22, 2000 - Illinois Valley Woodland Expo

Each month will focus on a specific aspect of the college, Brolley said:

* September - college history

* October - alumni

* November - developmental and adult education

* December - athletics

* January - future and technology

* February - ?

* March - ?

* April - career services

* May - health professions

* June - child development

* July - nature preservation

Subcommittees planning the celebration include: Art and Theme chaired by Kelly Conrad, director of admissions; History, chaired by Brolley and Carol Bird, head librarian; Marketing/Promotion, chaired by Lauren Sandberg, bookstore manager.

Also: Special Events, chaired by Marianne Dzik, coordinator of special populations; Mary Tully, adult education grant writer; Jamie Lemmer, career services secretary; and Mike Phillips, science instructor; Calendar of Events, chaired by Dorothy Hozie, Office Manager; and Finance, chaired by Karen Henkel, accountant.
