IVCCs Licensed Practical Nurses have excelled on their licensing exams for the second year in a row. The LPNs again had a 100 percent pass rate on the NCLEX.
The latest results are based on 23 students who graduated in 1997.
IVCCs nursing program has always remained above average in pass rates, said Bonnie Grusk, chair of health professions division. The pass rate for 1994 and 1995 was 96 percent.
IVCCs record places the students high above the state average which is at 86 percent.
Grusk credits the success of the program to "the quality of the curriculum and faculty, as well as the hardwork and dedication of our students."
She noted that the LPN plays an important role in delivering health care, especially in the IVCC district.
"There will be a projected nursing shortage for the year 1999," she said, adding that enrollment in the LPN program has increased recently.
Nurses who complete the one year LPN program can either go on to the two-year RN program or use their nursing skills supervised by either a physician or a registered nurse.
