Campbell leads Vampire discussion

Back to Apache home page

Bram Stoker’s "Dracula" and Shelby Hearon’s "Life Estates" will be featured in book discussion groups as part of the annual Family Reading Night Nov. 19.

English instructor Brian Campbell will lead the discussion of "Dracula" and its connections to Anne Rice’s "The Vampire Lestat."

"We will trace the vampire myth from what Stoker did, to how Rice rewrote it," said Campbell. He recommended that discussion participants be familiar with both books.

Librarian Melva Richards will lead an informal discussion of "Life Estates," the story of two longtime friends who have both recently lost their husbands.

"It is very interesting how each accepts their husband’s death," Richards said. "One feels her life is gone while the other is relieved because she can now be her own person and do what she wants to do."

The 6 to 8 p.m. Family Reading Night will also include storytellers, a puppet show, guest author Steve Stout, creative writing and publishing workshops and a book fair.

All age groups, preschool through senior citizens are welcome.

Further information is available at ext. 433 or 509.
