BACK ROW COLUMN: 'Child's Play' a total bomb
By Christopher Smith
If you missed the opening of Childs Play 4, consider yourself lucky. This movie is a total bomb. The premise is exactly the same as the other three, the direction is not good, and the acting is atrocious.
The beginning of the movie opens with Chuckys old girlfriend Tiffany making an effort to buy the doll from a police officer. After she has gotten the doll, she proceeds to sew him up, and return him to the true doll like form.
After the restoration, she calls upon voodoo magic to bring Charles Lee Ray (Chucky) back into the doll. After a little spat Chucky kills his girlfriend and traps her soul in the body of another doll. The only way to regain human form is to get a magical amulet that was buried on Rays body.
Another plot twist is the love to two teenagers named Jade and James who run off together to get away from Jades overbearing uncle who does not approve her relationship with James. The way for them to run away is offered by Tiffany who gives James $500 to take two dolls to a cemetery and drop them off.
The cross-country escapades of these two dolls and teenagers turn into a killing spree, as the dolls allow no one to stand in their way. The two teens are being chased by the police who think they are the killers, and for a while both teens think the other is the killer.
This movie is hardly watchable. The plot is slow and very predictable. There are no surprises because everything is foreshadowed to death. The killings are all gore and are supposed to scare you.
The only redeeming part of the movie is the dialogue between the two dolls and even that is hard to get through. The ending is not bad, but you can see if you pay attention. I just hope that there is not a "a son of Chucky."
I give it one kernel, unpopped.
