Intramurals Being Planned
By Eric Markey
An intramural program is a strong possibility this year, according to athletic director Mike Riley.
The first step may be the appointment of an intramural director. Chuck Goodwin, currently a member of the part-time staff, had been in charge of intramurals in recent years when he was a member of the full-time faculty.
Riley said no money was budgeted for an intramural director this year but funding has been budgeted for supplies and other things.
Scheduling intramural activities is the biggest problem Riley anticipates.
"We have to find a way to incorporate them (intramurals) into the time slots so that students can attend," he said.
"In the future we would like to see such things as flag football, basketball, 3 on 3 tournaments, 3 point contest, co-ed volleyball, golf tournament, among other things," Riley continued. "But we need students to participate in these things which is difficult because a lot of the students have a work schedule also."
Riley also mentioned ping pong, chess, 16-inch softball, and a scholastic bowl or trivia type of game.
Last years the intramural activities offered were flag football and basketball. In previous years chess and volleyball were also available.
Riley said he planned to discuss an intramural program with college administrators soon. He said any students with suggested activities or time slots speak to him in G-210, ext. 471.
