Campus Comment Column: Get Real, Get Dressed, IVCC
By HOLLI L. RAPP
Recently, I have seen numerous people wearing thin coats and shorts to IVCC. It is November and we are currently having the usual winter, which includes bad winds, and even snow. Probably some of the students experienced this typical weather Nov. 10, when winds were about 50 miles per hour. And even though it is hard to believe, soon we will be getting snow, real snow.
Even though people dont think that it takes that long to walk from the parking lots, it does, especially if you have to park in lots #3 and #4, which seem to be closer to Tonica than IVCC buildings. Going to and from the parking lots twice is enough for some of us. Its no wonder some students are coughing non-stop. Pretty soon some of those students are going to be coughing up their insides.
And while Im on the topic of coughing, instead of making the rest of us sick or making it impossible for us to hear what the instructor is saying in class, sick students, really sick students, should take a day off.
IVCC allows us to miss a certain number of days without being dropped from class. And most instructors understand if you have to miss a day because of illness. Even they get sick once in a while.
But an even better solution, or prevention, actually, is to wear clothes that are appropriate for the weather. That means, dress warm.
