IVCC professor, NSF co-PI selected for national symposium

Sue Caley Opsal, Illinois Valley Community College professor, has been selected to participate in a national anatomy and physiology symposium.

At the symposium, hosted by McGraw-Hill publishers, she will be one of a select group of anatomy professors from across the nation discussing teaching trends, digital learning tools and best practices.

In inviting Opsal to the symposium, McGraw-Hill representative Julie Keck said Opsal was "identified as someone who was a master teacher, who teaches the course with passion and truly cares about students."

Opsal, who makes her own YouTube tutorials for anatomy students said, "I am very excited to share my ideas regarding the use of video with other professors and I’m looking forward to hearing how they implement cutting edge technology into their classes."

Opsal is a co-Principal Investigator on a $ 520,000 National Science Foundation grant IVCC received in 2008. She heads grant activities for middle school students.

The symposium is Feb. 17-19, 2011 at McGraw-Hill headquarters in Dubuque, Iowa.
