AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

The MIMIC project won a Connections Award for Innovative Curriculum Integration from the Illinois State Board of Education in 1995, its first year.  Since that time, MIMIC has been widely recognized as a successful, innovative curriculum initiative. In 2006, a paper about the MIMIC project won the best paper award from the National Association of Industrial Technology. 

In 2010, the MIMIC project was nominated for a Bellwether Award, a national award presented to cutting-edge, innovative, trend-setting programs that are successfully leading community colleges into the future.  And in 2011, MIMIC was named a Finalist for a Bellwether Award.  The Bellwether Awards are presented at the Community College Futures Assembly which is sponsored by the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Florida.

CONFERENCE PRESENTATIONS

Project organizers have given presentations about MIMIC at a number of national and international conferences including:

  • American Society for Engineering Education International Colloquium at Tsinghua University in Beijing, People's Republic of China, 2004

  • American Society for Engineering Education National Conference at Salt Lake City, Utah in 2004; at Chicago in 2006; at Honolulu, Hawaii in 2007, at Pittsburg, PA in 2008

  • League for Innovation in the Community College:  Innovations 2010 Conference in Baltimore, Maryland, 2010

  • National Association of Industrial Technology Convention at Cleveland, Ohio, 2006.

  • National Association for Workforce Improvement Conference at Chicago in 2007.

  • Lilly Conference on Excellence in College Teaching at Miami University, Ohio

  • Society of Educators and Scholars International Conference in Louisville Ky.

  • National Institute for Staff and Organizational development Conference in Austin, Texas

  • National Council for Occupational Education Conference in St. Louis

Jim Gibson at the ASEE International Colloquium in Beijing, China.  Gibson, Dorene Perez and Rose Marie Lynch gave a presentation on MIMIC at Tsinghua University in Sept. 2004.

MIMIC AT ATE CONFERENCE IN WASHINGTON D.C.

MIMIC and MIMIC-related initiatives being supported by a National Science Foundation grant were showcased at the Advanced Technological Education Conference co-sponsored by the American Association of Community Colleges and the National Science Foundation in October 2006, 2007 and 2008 in Washington, D.C. In 2006 a MIMIC project graduate, received a scholarship from the AACC and NSF to attend the conference and present a showcase at that conference; in 2007, two technical students received scholarships and presented a showcase in Washington D.C.
