TRUSTEE'S CORNER
By David Zallis
IVCC Student Trustee, Feb. 17, 2011
Welcome to another edition of Trustee’s Corner. The month
of February is upon us. This means that the Spring semester is well under way.
February’s arrival always serves as an indicator to start
working on your FAFSA if it is not already completed.
Keep in mind that the sooner you get it taken care of the
better chance you have of receiving Financial Aid.
The hard working employees in the Financial Aid office have a
wealth of knowledge (I know this from firsthand experience), so be sure to
utilize their expertise. (Dates and times of several FAFSA workshops are
included on page 7).
With that said, let us continue on to the happenings of your
Student Government Association.
Last week, the SGA helped students apply for graduation
through our work at the graduation promotion table in the lobby.
On Feb. 24 we will be co-hosting the annual “Soul Food” lunch
in the cafeteria along with Diversity Team, POWER, and International Society.
This event, full of deliciousness, is in celebration of Black History Month.
Among other Black History Month activities, SGA will host a
film screening for “Invisible Children” in the Cultural Center, to help raise
awareness of the children that are forced to serve in the Ugandan military.
I would encourage you all to attend and get a better
understanding of the world around you. (Other Black History Month events are
listed on page 5).
February will end with an event in our Cultural Center and we
will begin March in the same way. On March 7, SGA will bring children’s musician
and comedian Dave Rudolf to the stage.
Local school children will be invited to laugh until their
sides split.
Just as this event will benefit local children, it will also
help local animals because it will also be a fundraising event for Illinois
Valley Animal Rescue.
That about sums it up for Student Government this month, and
don’t forget to fill out your FAFSA so you can be one of the many that benefits
from the many forms of Financial Aid.
Have a great month and keep up the good work!
