Beginning with the summer term, tuition will increase from
$75.75 to $83.52 per credit hour, an increase of $7.77.
The administration and the IVCC Board of Trustees’
Audit/Finance Committee recommended the increase after learning that the revenue
IVCC receives from the State of Illinois would remain where it is currently or
even decrease by 2 percent.
“There are 39 community college districts in the State of
Illinois; the State’s average rate is $98.26 and IVCC’s rate is the lowest,”
assured IVCC President Jerry Corcoran.
“With what we’re seeing in the way of projected tuition
increases at other community colleges next year, we’re pretty safe in saying
that our rate will continue being amongst the lowest, despite the increase.”
One reason for the tuition increase is that IVCC needs to
maintain an 85 percent minimum tuition and fee rate to be eligible for
approximately $2.7 million in equalization funding revenue from the state.
The tuition increase will help maintain that number and allow
IVCC to continue offering a wide variety of programs and services. The board
will vote on the increase this month.
“We’re not looking to eliminate anything at this point in
time,” said Corcoran. “The State is having difficulty meeting its obligations to
schools, colleges and universities. Our students deserve the best and we will
not let them down.”
