Illinois Valley Community College’s 2010 RN and LPN
graduates surpassed the state and national average pass rates on the nursing
licensure exams.
IVCC’s 24 LPN graduates had a 100 percent pass rate compared
to a 91 percent state average and 87 percent national average on the National
Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX).
The pass rate for IVCC’s 56 RN (or associate degree)
graduates was 93 percent compared to an 88 percent state average and 87 percent
national average.
“We are pleased with the results,” said Michael Gorman, Dean
of Health Professions. “Our program’s comprehensive curriculum prepares students
for real-world nursing.”
IVCC President Jerry Corcoran credited Gorman and Director of
Nursing Kathryn Kott for their work.
He said, “Our nursing students have exceeded state and
national pass rates for four straight years on this rigorous exam. This speaks
well about the quality of our nursing program, our nursing faculty and staff.”
To become a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse
(LPN), all graduates must pass the NCLEX, a test of entry-level knowledge,
skills and abilities to ensure safe and effective practices. For information on
the program, contact Gorman or Kott.
