Illinois Valley Community College is planning several
activities for Women’s History Month in March.
The first event of the month will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March
1 at the Ottawa Center.
The Diversity Team, American Association of University Women,
and the Bookmouse kick off Women's History Month with a presentation by Louise
Knight, author of two best selling biographies about Jane Addams.
A reception with light refreshments will take place from
6-6:30 p.m. followed by a discussion by the author and book signing.
A variety of other Women's History Month events will also be
held including a talk by Professor Amanda Bigelow titled "Conservative Women's
Movements and the Rise of Sarah Palin," and a showing of the documentary film
“Top Secret Rosies: The Female Computers of WWII.”
"In 1942, when computers were human and women were
underestimated, a group of female mathematicians helped win a war and usher in
the modern computer age," publicity for the movie reports.
Dates and times for these and other Women's History Month
events will be available soon.
