The Illinois Valley Community College Men’s Tennis Team season is now over after placing third in regionals out of eight teams that competed. The Eagles finished the year 4-4 in dual matches and individually some had great performances, according to Coach Lukas Burkon.
“I think we could have done better as a team if we had better luck,” Burkon said. “I think individually some players did great—to name a few: Keith Lipka, Kyle Wineinger and Scott Nelson.
“The team goal was to win the regional title; however, Oakton Community College had a very strong team and during the season we had to alter our goal. Our goal after that was to be second at the regionals,” Burkon said.
The team’s goal fell a little short, but one player said he accomplished his own personal goal: Adam Jobst, sophomore on the team, said his goal was “to win my opening match at regional.”
Jobst finished the season with a 6-3 record overall.
“It was one of my best overall records,” he said.
Burkon is already looking forward towards next season as the team expects to be in the same position it was this year.
“For next year we have two players coming back: Kyle Wineinger and Jake Rathbun. I will be busy recruiting this summer. I expect us to be competing for the Regional Title next year,” Burkon said.
